THE KÜBLBÖCK STORY – EURE LANA KAISER is a change of perspective on a reality TV star who was supposedly well-known but ultimately unknown, and not least a love letter to ‘the greatest of all dreamers and fighters’.
Lana Kaiser, who became known throughout Germany as Daniel Küblböck on ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’ (Germany’s Got Talent), represents like no other person the casting phenomenon of the noughties, but also a person who presented themselves as confidently queer and broke social norms with a playful force like hardly anyone else before. The documentary series sensitively recounts the coming of age of the multifaceted person behind the media image of the teenager from the Bavarian province.
With the help of exclusive testimonies from family and friends, the story is told from the ‘inner circle’ and not through the malicious lens of the tabloid press. Together with them, the series looks back on a phenomenon of the German noughties.
The three episodes paint an empowering psychological portrait of a lovable person who constantly reinvented himself and, shortly before he disappeared on a cruise, seemed to be taking another important step towards a self-determined life.
